WEEK ENDING 31/10/09
Strong winds affected the catches in the final week of the season, that said there were
still limit bags being taken up to the last day. Lures and muddlers fished at the peat
bank brought the best results.

The penultimate week of the season brought strong winds with few anglers venturing out.
Those that did managed to catch a few fish, mostly on lures.
WEEK ENDING 18/10/09
A spell of better weather in the early part of the week saw fish rising on most days, with anglers catching on dries, but by the weekend the temperature had dropped and the fishing was harder.
Monday saw a hatch of black midge and the fish were on the surface all day.
The rocks at the peat bank was still the area to fish, with some cracking conditioned fish with full tails being brought in.
Top return was made by Rudi Anderson & Colin Lindsay on Wednesday with fourteen rainbows at the peat bank.
David Robertson & Son in two short sessions managed eighteen rainbows.
WEEK ENDING 11/10/09
The top area all week was the rocks at the peat bank and anglers fishing this area made good catches. A few boats also reported good catches from the burn area.
Floating lines with lures or wets was all that was required.

WEEK ENDING 4/10/09
The first half of the week saw lots of fish on the surface, mostly at the Dam Wall and cabin shore.
Top return all week was made on Monday with Mr Laird & Mr Macgilp with ten rainbows and twenty six browns.
Bill Tomlin & Jim Bryan managed thirteen rainbows up to nine pounds on Tuesday, mostly on shipmans and spiders.
The wind on Saturday certainly lived up to the forecast.
Fishery manager Scott Henderson took a boat with David Robertson Jnr on Sunday over to the peat bank and at times were getting a fish a cast, mostly on lures with a good mixture of resident fish and stockies.
Cats Whiskers and Orange Blobs were the top flies.

WEEK ENDING 27/9/09
Wind direction for most of the week was south westerlies and anglers found fish along the cabin shore and the Dam wall.
Fish were rising freely along the Dam wall and towards the overflow on most days.
A variety of tactics worked, from lures to dry flies.
J. Anderson & party, bank fishing (4 rods Mon) managed 17 rainbows, up to 3.5lb.
A. Sanford & I. Sanford (Wed) landed seven for 15lb.
Wayne Cram & Phil Bryant (Sun) 12 rainbows & 4 browns.
Falkirk Municipal A/C (6 Boats Sat) 30 fish – 66lb 11oz. One further rainbow was returned. Included in the catch was two tiger trout.

WEEK ENDING 20/9/09
Regular anglers made the best returns throughout the week and most achieved bag limits.
The top method was to fish muddlers or floating fry patterns along the south shore.
The best of the conditions were on Wednesday.
J Baird and L Mcarthur managed seven for 15lb 4oz.
Neil Cameron also out on Wednesday landed a quick limit and returned many more.
Bill Tomlin fishing on Thursday landed eight rainbows in a couple of hours.
Jim Thomson and David Black fishing on Friday landed eight for 20lb 2oz.
Harry Camp and John Middleton fishing in windy conditions on Saturday returned with seven for 18lb 2oz, mostly on muddlers with many more follows and swirls.
The area in front of the Dam still held good numbers of fish as Ernie Lamont and Wattie Borthwick found out on Sunday. They managed eight rainbows for 18lb 12oz, with two browns returned.

Doon Valley A/C (4 Boats Sun) 6 fish – 14lb 8oz. Three browns and one tiger were returned.

WEEK ENDING 13/9/09
A spell of better weather saw some good returns being made with many limit bags being taken.
With the better conditions rising fish were plentiful and good top of the water sport was to be had.
Thursday saw the best returns with thirteen rods landing 47 rainbows.
Ali Middlemass & Donnie Woodmore managed 16 rainbows drifting along the top shore on Friday.
Wayne Cram two visits 15 fish up to 4lb.
B. Tomlin two visits 16 fish.
As in the previous weeks, the area out from the boats and the dam wall held good numbers of fish.

WEEK ENDING 6/9/09
The fishery was quiet midweek with only a few boats venturing out.
The best of the returns were made at the weekend with many quick limit bags being taken.
The water was heavily peat stained due to the heavy rain that fell, and most fish landed were caught on lures such as white fritz goldhead, orange fritz goldhead and orange blob.
Top area was the boat mooring and both sides of the tower casting towards the dam wall.
Cramond A/C (6 Boats Sat) 36 fish – 80lb 12oz. A further three rainbows, one blue and seven browns were returned.
Inchinnan A/C (5 Boats Sun) 23 fish – 49lb 8oz.

WEEK ENDING 30/8/09
Another week of wind, with some days lost because of the weather.
Anglers fishing the early part of the week saw good sport with dry flies and wets taking most fish.
The weekend brought mixed weather and catches, with Sunday being the better day.
www.troutandfly.co.uk held a forum get together on Saturday, and were faced with strong wind, swirling wind and bright sun at times.
Not one tactic stood out, with fish being caught on anything from dries to lures.
David Robertson Jnr two visits, seven rainbows, sixteen browns and one tiger.
Trout & Fly (Forum) 16 fish – 38lb 8oz, with a further five rainbows and a couple of browns returned.
Edinburgh Masonic A/C (3 Boats Sunday) 15 fish – 34lb 2oz.

WEEK ENDING 23/8/09
The week was dominated by strong winds and heavy rain, with just the hardiest of anglers heading out.
Top tactic continued to be the dry fly with daddies, hoppers, ginked up kate mclaren’s and blobs.
Wednesday brought the worst conditions of the week but that didn’t deter Ian Pennycuik and David Syme and they were rewarded with seven rainbows for 14lb 12oz.
Both sides of the tower, tight in to the dam wall were holding good numbers of fish.

WEEK ENDING 16/8/09
Fishing from Monday to Thursday was good with fish feeding heavily on the heather fly.
Monday saw the capture of a 12lb 8oz Brown.
The browns were feeding hard all week and some nice fish were caught.
The best return was made on Thursday with David Robertson & Son landing thirty one browns up to two pounds and four rainbows, all on bibio hoppers and bibio.
Conditions from Friday through to Sunday were horrendous with strong winds and heavy rain and the returns reflected this.
Bibio hoppers, Black Hoppers, Bibio, Kate Mclaren, Silver Invicta and Teal Blue & Silver were working well, with the Lodge bank and the far side of the tower the best areas.
Seafield A/C (4.5 Boats Sat) only two boats made a return and they managed 12 fish for 29lb 4oz.

WEEK ENDING 9/8/09
The week started with windy conditions, but anglers were still catching in challenging conditions.
Floating lines with dries or wets were taking most of the fish.
Thursday saw the Heather Fly starting to be blown on to the surface and some good returns were made.
Friday saw the best conditions of the week with twenty four rods catching over sixty trout.
B. Tomlin used his small spider patterns to good effect catching twenty four rainbows in three visits.
Bibio Hoppers, Black Hoppers, Kate Mclaren, Sedgehogs and Spider patterns working well.
MacTaggart Scott (6 Boats Fri) 26 fish for 61lb 12oz, heaviest fish was a cracking 5lb 6oz resident rainbow.
Douglas Water A/C (3.5 Boats Sun) 11 fish for 29lb 2oz, with a further two rainbows returned.

WEEK ENDING 2/7/09
The level remained high for the early part of the week and good catches were made from the bay at the burn to the burn itself. On Sunday morning the level had dropped enough to allow the bank to come in to play again.
Wind remained strong for most of the week with Saturday seeing the worst of the conditions.
Sunday brought better conditions and the best day return was made by Mr Meechan & D. Grain bank fishing with six rainbows and four browns. Two of the browns were over the two pound mark.

WEEK ENDING 26/7/09
Heavy rain throughout the week saw the reservoir level rise by over three feet. When the level peaked on Thursday the burn mouth area was stuffed with fish, and 2.5 boats landed thirty fish between them.
With the level being so high the fish moved right in to the flooded areas and anglers fishing tight in made good returns.
Top return on Saturday was P. Bryant & W. Cram with eleven rainbows up to six pounds.
Sunday brought blustery conditions with few boats venturing out, of those that did, W. Doran & C. Mcglone made the best return with seven rainbows.
Goth Fly Fishing Club (4 Boats Sat) 10 fish for 27lb, heaviest fish weighed 4lb 12oz.
Edinburgh Post Office A/C (6.5 Boats Sat, Eve) 22 fish for 53lb, with a further four rainbows and some browns returned.

WEEK ENDING 19/7/09
The Fishery continued to provide good sport throughout the week, with only Saturday and Sunday evening failing to produce good results.
Wednesday evening saw five boats return with over thirty fish.
David Robertson managed seventeen rainbows and seven browns in three visits, with four rainbows at 4lb and a brown at 8.5lb. Most of the fish were caught using Sandy Dickson’s Blank Buster Buzzers.
C. Mcglone & W. Doran made the best return on Saturday, boating sixteen rainbows and some browns.
R. Leary & P. Johnson had the top boat on Sunday with eight rainbows and two browns.
Top area continued to be the burn mouth and both sides of the tower, with sedges, kate mclaren, daddies and cormorants.
Kirkcaldy Deaf Anglers A/C (5 Boats Saturday) 26 fish – 62lb 12oz with a further one rainbow returned.
Polton Inn F/F (5 Boats Saturday Eve) 7 fish – 16lb 9oz.

WEEK ENDING 12/7/09
Good catches were still being made through the day, but the best returns are starting to come in the evenings, with most nights seeing good rises.
A feature of the week was the capture of some sizeable browns.
Blank Buster Buzzers, Cormorants, CDC Shuttlecocks and Deer hair Sedges especially at dusk were working well.

WEEK ENDING 5/7/09
Fishing throughout the day became harder what with the water temperature and bright conditions.
Rain on Friday certainly helped and the fishing all weekend was good, with good catches being made fom the burn area.
Evening fishing has picked up with Friday and especially Sunday evening bringing good results.
Black Hopper, Daddies, CDC’S and Sedge patterns taking most of the fish, with the burn the best area.
The level of the Reservoir remains excellent for this time of year.
Butcher Boys A/C (18 bank rods Saturday) weighed in 42 fish for 92lb 4oz. A further three Rainbows were returned. There catch included a 2lb 1oz Tiger.
Crosskeys A/C (2.5 Boats Saturday) 4 fish – 9lb 6oz
Kirkliston Fly Tyiers (2 Boats & 1 Bankie Sunday) weighed in 14 fish for 32lb 12oz. A further four Rainbows and one Tiger were returned.

WEEK ENDING 28/6/09
Anglers fishing dries made the best returns all week, even at times when no fish were showing on the surface.
D. Robertson & Son in a short session on Friday managed thirteen rainbows and one blue. They returned on Saturday and landed eleven rainbows up to 6lb and two browns.
Saturday saw bank and boat anglers take limits from the rocks at the peat bank, mostly all on black hoppers & kate mclaren in size 14s.
The last two tagged fish were caught, a 6lb Rainbow and a Tiger weighing 2lb 6oz.
Black hopper, daddies, kate mclaren, bibio and blobs were the top flies, with the bank opposite the Lodge up to the rocks the main area all week.
Ferranti A/C (2.5 Boats Sat) weighed in 16 fish for 33lb 12oz, with a further five rainbows and three browns returned.
Edinburgh Masonic A/C (3 Boats Sun) 8 fish for 19lb and one 2lb brown.
As this report gets written (Tues 30th June) water temperature is 19′C and the fishing during the day has become harder. Tuesday evening saw the best evening rise of the season so far.

WEEK ENDING 21/6/09
Mixed week weather wise, with rain, wind and sunny conditions. Day sessions produced more fish as conditions didn’t suit evening fishing.
Anglers had good sport throughout the week with the bay at the burn and the rocks at the peat bank producing fish. Saturday saw the peat bank stuffed with fish, and the best return from the weekend came from this area. J Bryan and B Tomlin landed sixteen rainbows with four over five pounds in weight.
Fishery manager Scott Henderson had the honour of catching the first tiger trout on Saturday morning on a Daddy, this was quickly followed by Mr Wilson bringing in another one weighing 2lb 8oz.
A tagged fish that was stocked for the Macmillan competition was caught on Thursday evening.
Brown trout are showing up in good numbers.

Monday started with a cracking rise at the peat bank and burn area, with buzzers taking plenty of fish.
Anglers were reporting catching fish early in the mornings then not touching a thing all afternoon in the bright conditions.
Evenings produced large rises which at times were frustrating.
Macmillan Cancer charity day was held on Saturday (see news page).
Sanford & Baird (2 Boats) 16 fish for 41lb with a further eight returned.
B.P A/C (5 Boats) 13 fish for 31lb.

WEEK ENDING 7/6/09
The highs from the previous weekend continued into Monday and anglers using fast intermediate and sinking lines, with lures and boobies took fish.
Another tactic was to fish Buzzers near the Dam Wall, which took some cracking fish.
Evening fishing suffered as the temperatures dramatically dropped due to the cool easterly winds.
Top areas were the Dam Wall in the early part of the week, with the weekend seeing good numbers of fish caught from the peat bank and burn area.
Edinburgh Waltons A/C (6 Boats Thursday Eve) managed 16 fish for 36lb 8oz.
Bank of Scotland Glasgow District A/C (6.5 Boats Sunday) landed 33 fish for 71lb 12oz.

WEEK ENDING 31/5/09
Fishing has been good this week even in the hot/bright conditions.
Bank holiday Monday saw most anglers return with there limits and this pattern was to continue throughout the week.
Top midweek boat was D. Baird & J. Sandford with eight fish for 23lb 10oz. Heaviest fish weighed 3lb 4oz.
They went on to return a further eight rainbows and five browns. Most of there fish were on cdc and bibio and were caught up at the peat bank.
Top weekend boat was S. Strachan & D. Purnell fishing in blazing hot conditions on Saturday with eight fish for 23lb 8oz, included in the catch were rainbows of 5lb 8oz & 4lb 8oz. A further eight rainbows were returned.
Evening fishing finally got going on Friday, (approx 3 weeks later this season). There was a terrific rise and most boats came in with there limits.
Saturday evening saw brown trout of 7lb and 5lb being caught.
Sunday evening saw the capture of a 9lb 4oz rainbow for Wayne Cram on a muddler.
Top area was the peat bank and along the top shore towards the burn.
Buzzers, nymphs, dries and wets all caught fish.

WEEK ENDING 24/5/09
Good numbers of fish were starting to show on the surface during the day.
Floating to midge tip lines were the line choice with buzers, wets, lures and dries all catching. Top area without doubt was the lodge shore.
The evenings are still turning cold with very few anglers heading out.
West Lothian Fly Dressers (5.5 boats Saturday) weighed in 37 fish for 88lb 12oz with club member Scott Middlemass landing a cracking wintered rainbow at 7lb 12oz and another at 5lb. A further eleven rainbows and over a dozen brown trout were returned.
D. Roberts (2 boats Sunday) managed 21 rainbows.

WEEK ENDING 17/5/09
Strong winds midweek saw the fishery quiet, with just the hardiest anglers braving the conditions.
Those that went out caught with some nice fish figuring in the returns.
Heaviest fish of the week fell to bank angler R. Abernethy with a rainbow at 11lb 4oz.
Polton Inn F/F (5.5 boats Saturday) found the conditions difficult and brought in 13 fish for 30lb 6oz, heaviest rainbow weighed 5lb 4oz.
B. Tomlin 4 visits landed 23 fish with a fin perfect wintered 8.5lb rainbow being the highlight. Most were caught on cormorants.
More overwintered fish are showing up in the returns with some nice blues also.

WEEK ENDING 10/5/09
The week started with strong winds and this pattern was to continue through the week. Such conditions meant that boats couldn’t get out from Tuesday to Friday. Heavy rain rose the level by eighteen inches on Friday night.
Falkirk Municipal A/C (7.5 boats Saturday) kept 51 fish for 126lb 12oz with fish of 6lb 4oz and 5lb included in the catch. A further four rainbows and three browns were returned. Daiwl bach, crunchers and cats whiskers took most of the fish.
Royal Navy A/C (3.5 boats Sunday) managed 9 fish for 22lb 8oz, including a 4lb 5oz rainbow. A further two rainbow trout were returned.
Top area was along the lodge shore.

WEEK ENDING 3/5/09
Fishing for the week was difficult at times due to the strong winds experienced on most days.
Anglers that braved the conditions saw some sport and some nice fish were caught.
Wayne Cram and party who had a BBQ on Saturday managed 15 fish for 37lb with a further 13 fish returned. Heaviest was a 5lb 8oz rainbow.
South Queensferry A/C (2 boats) 9 fish for 23lb 2oz + 1 returned.
Edinburgh Masonic A/C (3 boats) 5 fish for 12lb.
Heaviest fish of the week was a 12lb rainbow and was landed by J. Milne on Sunday.
D. Robertson Snr three visits 16 fish including a 6lb rainbow and 4lb+ brown.
B. Tomlin three visits 17 rainbows.

WEEK ENDING 26/4/09
Good numbers of fish were showing on the surface, with anglers catching on dries in the early part of the week.
The bank opposite the lodge was holding a good head of fish that were at times only feet from the shore.
Heaviest fish of the week fell to Dione Roberts with a cracking 8lb Brown Trout, Dione also landed a 6lb Rainbow in the same session. Both were caught on the kate mclaren.

WEEK ENDING 19/4/09
Easter Monday started with Bill Tomlin catching four rainbows within an hour, the smallest being 6lb all on the silver invicta.
Tuesday saw the capture of an overwintered blue at 12lb+ for David Robertson.
Wednesday through to Friday brought windy conditions with boats not being allowed out. Anglers that fished the bank found good sport with the rocks at the peat corner being the hot spot.
Saturday saw the wind ease, with Loanhead Miners (7 boats) bring in 41 fish for 90lb 12oz, heaviest fish was a rainbow at 5lb 12oz.
Bridge Ness Fishing Club (3 boats Sunday) brought in 10 fish for 23lb 12oz.
Bright sunshine on Sunday made fishing a little harder, but most rods returned with fish.
Top areas were the bay at the peat bank and the lodge shore.
Cormorants, crunchers, diawl bach, kate mclaren, blae & black and yellow dancers took the majority of the fish.

WEEK ENDING 12/4/09
The week was marred with strong winds with the boats being blown off on Thursday. The weather didn’t affect the catches with anglers completing limits from Monday through to Wednesday.
Beecraigs fishery manager J. Mckenna and boat partner brought in a quick limit on Wednesday with eight fish for 18lb.
Saturday was the Troutmasters fish-off and saw most anglers complete their limit, some quicker than others.
First in after two and a half hours was Rab Sneddon who caught his fish up at the peat bank on cormorants. The full result will be posted in the next few days.
Sunday brought the best conditions of the week with light winds and a terrific rise up at the peat bank. The fish were coming up for the cow dung fly. It was this area that saw the best catch on Sunday, with W. Cram landing seven rainbows and an overwintered blue at 4lb, all on the Kate Mclaren.
Scottish Ladies team member and Crosswood season ticket holder Dione Roberts managed nine fish in three short bank sessions.
D. Robertson four visits landed twenty three fish.
Top area was the Lodge shore with cormorants, diawl bach and kate mclaren’s producing the best results.

Fishing throughout the week was excellent with many limit bags being taken.
Cormorants, crunchers and diawl bach’s continue to take the bulk of the fish.

Inchinnan A/C (8 Boats- Sunday) kept 41 fish for 97lb 8oz returning a further 10 rainbow trout. Heaviest fish weighed 4lb 8oz.
Edinburgh Masonic A/C bank fishing on Sunday managed to land 8 fish for 19lb, heaviest weighed 3lb 2oz.
WEEK ENDING 29/3/09
Despite strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures good catches were made by anglers who braved these elements.
Intermediate lines with cormorants were taking the bulk of the fish. The top area was the shore opposite the lodge right up in to the peat corner.
Some nice brown trout are beginning to be caught with 1@ 5lb+ and two around the 4lb mark.
Saturday saw the best of the catches with seven boats landing over sixty fish.
Wellington A/C (5 boats) 26 fish for 63lb 4oz, with a further 15 rainbows returned. Heaviest fish weighed 7lb.
B. Tomlin 4 visits 28 fish including 1 brown @ 4lb and some nice overwintered rainbows.
D. Robertson 7 rainbows up to 6lb 8oz and a 5lb+ brown.
Cramond A/C members Graeme Mclean and Robert Sneddon boated 11 rainbows on there visit.
OPENING WEEKEND 21/22 March 2009,
Opening weekend saw some good catches being made. Boat anglers generally made the better catches with the rocks at the peat bank being the top area. Bank anglers were picking up fish along the cabin shore. Blobs, Comorants, Yellow Dancers and Black & Green Fritz’s were the top flies.
Quickest limit on Saturday fell to bank angler Bill Tomlin within twenty minutes.

Heaviest fish of the weekend fell to E.Lamont with a rainbow weighing 10lb 4oz, caught boat fishing on Sunday.
